task 5 report - gz

truly epic.  our biggest ever task at canungra and the first over the main dividing range.  clearly we had a pretty good looking sky in the morning and as it was the final day we were keen to end on a high note.  90km task via a turnpoint at moogerah dam to a goal 10km over the main range.  i flew the entire day with james lawson, top flying mate, and while we ended up about 7th and 8th in we stayed high and had a pretty comfortable run.  the likes of shane, craig and matty pushed a bit harder, had some low time but got rewarded with a faster arrival time.  craig c won the drag race up front and took the day and the comp, top way to finish.  3 of the top 4 pilots tho dropped short to switch up the leader board once again.  that kind of comp.  in the end 33 pilots made it over the range and 32 in goal for an extraordinary result.  made for a great presentation dinner and a good party.  a big thanks to our organiser and scorer matt rosser for making it all work so smoothly.

Day-4 report - gz

tambourine - maroon dam, via turnpoint at 30km, 57km task.
well. strikingly similar conditions today saw a similar task with similar results to yesterday. different launch just to mix things up. quite northerly winds with a 1600m base gave us scrappy climbs, with the both the climbs and the glides getting progressively more difficult past the turnpoint and closer to goal. however with nearly 10 people in goal the task panned out quite well. launch climb out was probably the hardest part of the day, as has been the case the last 2 tasks also with very difficult launch conditions. today saw one pilot collect some shrubbery near bomb out but minor damage and no injuries resulted. tomorrow is looking like a strong and gusty southerly change coming thru so i guess we'll see if we can sneak something in before the wind arrives. it's been good to get 3 tasks in in some challenging conditions, especially in the first several km from launch and with pretty low bases. big thanks to some of our sponsors who are giving us great service during the week. Alistair from 11th hour catering for free coffee at briefings and at launch in particular.

if tomorrow blows it it'll be the australia vs NZ cricket match which should be quite interesting, check back here for the full scorecard and game report.
